A year ago, this wasn't a team.
A year ago, this was all they could muster.
This was last night.
Against all predictions, all possibilities, all logic, and even all magic, the Vegas Golden Knights won the Pacific Division in their first year.
So, that... should've been unexpected, yet so... not. The Ducks are 5-8 against the Nashville Predators in the last two years, losing both series with home ice. And now, Nashville is on to play for the Stanley Cup. I can't really predict the cup final yet, since, you know, we don't know who the Preds are playing yet. But, this is a team with mojo. Probably more than the Sharks had a year ago before they ran into the buzzsaw that was the Pittsburgh Penguins.
But Nashville this year has been surprising everyone. Each series has been a different style of play, and they have never trailed in a series so far this year, and they are a mind-boggling 6-1 at home and 12-4 overall. They are winning everywhere in every way imaginable. No one (including me!) thought this team was going anywhere, and here they are, four wins away from the greatest trophy in all of sports. Regardless of what happens in the Finals, this is a team that is fast, loose, and playing with house money. They have nothing to lose, making them an incredibly dangerous opponent, regardless if they face Ottawa or Pittsburgh! Nashville Predators: 2017 Western Conference Champions! So, it's here. My 2nd annual early April tradition of screwing up the picks for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Remember last year? When I was completely and utterly 100% wrong on the entire Western Conference? Remember that? I'm gonna try to avoid it this year, but if you're filling out your own bracket, just remember, look at what I pick... then go the opposite way! So, this year, I got the Caps finally makin' their run in the East, and I know, there are those of you just snorting at the idea 'cause Sid's owned his butt in the playoffs since... like... forever ago. And the Caps do nothing but sink in the playoffs. Yeah, well, they said the same thing about the Sha... oh, wait... they lost to the... yeah... doesn't exactly make my point.
ANYHOO, outta the west I have the Oilers. I don't know why. I watched them tonight, albeit against a Canucks team with nothing to play for. They have some spunk. I don't know what kind of fight the Sharks are going to put up. A month and a half ago they were in cruise control for the Pacific Division title, then they sank to third. Maybe they're outta gas after last years run, I dunno, I just don't have faith in the Sharks. After that, I see this team getting cocky. The Ducks... seem to have it, yet... there's something missing. Maybe it's excitement, I dunno. The 'hawks have been here, done that, but if this Oilers team gets going, I don't know that I'd want to be in front of them. They lack playoff experience, which means they don't really know that they're supposed to be scared. If they play their game and get on a roll, they'll be tough to beat. So, there you have it. My guaranteed wrong bracket. You totally should be expecting the Minnesota Wild to sweep the Bruins for the Cup in June. Just, if it actually happens, remember... you heard it from Skylar first! I'm not officially allowed to enter. That didn't stop us from creating our own pool in West Leads! Knowing how I did last year, I'm not sure I would trust me, but it's about the fun anyway, so who cares? Read more for my Final Four analysis. You know, for what it's worth.
Good stuff! Reposted from Pottermore. All Christmases are magical, but wizarding Christmases are a bit more magical than most...
